Northern Europe has its fair share of beauty, culture, fine cuisine and even finer wine. From September 5-12, 2025, we’re setting sail with Virgin Voyages from Portsmouth, England, to explore this compelling region of Europe. Amsterdam is where it all begins - a city known for its canals, art, and animated nightlife. After an overnight stay, we’ll slide down the Northern Sea to Belgium’s culturally rich capital city, Bruges, before making one last stop in Bordeaux - a French city full of architectural wonders and the world capital for wine! If you’re sailing solo, you won’t be alone for long as our gay group trips come with group dinners, cocktail hours, games, shore excursions, and more. Aboard a Virgin Voyages cruise, you can also expect live entertainment for those hard days at sea, as well as wild themed parties - including the infamously fun Scarlet Night. Gay Travel Guide to Istanbul
Istanbul is quite literally where East meets West. In fact, it is the world’s only transcontinental city, with the Bosphorus Strait running through the city and dividing it into a European and an Asian side. The influences of both continents combine within Istanbul’s culture, cuisine, and the more liberal attitudes of its people—at least in comparison to its neighbors. However, Istanbul is very much its own place with a strong personality. Although Istanbul has a surprisingly large gay nightlife scene and is relatively tolerant, it’s important to remember that this is still a city within an Islamic country, where conservative values influence society. However, as long as you proceed with a little discretion, you’ll find the people of Istanbul to be some of the most welcoming in the world, more than happy to show off their dynamic city to all visitors, LGBTQ+ or otherwise.
